Why Silicone Is Not a Permanent Fix for Damaged Roof Tiles and Leaking Roof Repairs

When a roof tile is damaged, cracked or leaking, many people try to use silicone as a quick roof fixing solution. Silicone may help for a very short period, especially if the goal is to slow down a leaking roof and prevent further water damage until a proper roof repair can be completed.

However, silicone is not a permanent roof repair. Over time, silicone can crack, lift, trap moisture and fail during heavy rain. Once this happens, water can continue entering the roof cavity, causing further damage to roof battens, sarking, ceilings, insulation and internal areas of the property.

A proper tiled roof repair should always focus on fixing the actual cause of the leak, not just covering the damaged area.

The correct method is to remove the damaged roof tile or ridge section, replace it with an original matching roof tile, and make sure the surrounding area is properly repaired. If ridge caps are affected, they may need proper ridge cap repairs, repointing or rebedding depending on the condition of the roof.

While replacing a broken roof tile or repairing a ridge section may cost more than applying silicone, it is a much better long-term investment.

A proper roof repair helps protect the property during heavy rain, reduces the risk of repeated leaks and keeps the roof system performing the way it should.

At Sydney Roofers, we provide professional roof repairs in Sydney, leaking roof repairs, roof fixing, broken roof tile replacement, ridge cap repairs, tiled roof maintenance and roof leak detection. Our focus is always on long-term roof repair solutions, not temporary patch work that fails after the next storm.
